CRETE attended the Remediation of Contaminated Sediments conference in Dallas and presented a poster entitled Geotechnical Analysis of Soft Sediment to Support an
Environmental Cap. CRETE provides unique expertise related to assessing the potential to place an environmental cap on very soft sediment, where representative sediment samples are very difficult to collect and where traditional geotechnical field tests cannot characterize the low strength sediment. Our expertise includes traditional and specialized in situ field testing to collect undrained shear strength data for the entire sediment depth profile. The geotechnical analysis of the native sediment includes punching shear bearing capacity and slope stability. Based on these collection and analysis methods, environmental cap material and placement methods have been specified to allow successful capping of contaminated sediment.
